ICNL Hires New Legal Counsel for NIS

The International Center for Not-for-Profit Law is pleased to announce that Melanie Lyon has been hired to serve as our new Legal Counsel for NIS Projects. Ms. Lyon holds a B.A., magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Barnard College of Columbia University in Women’s Studies and a J.D. from The University of Chicago Law School. Since graduating from The University of Chicago, Ms. Lyon has practiced as a litigator at the law firms of Mayer, Brown, Rowe and Maw and Kirkland and Ellis, specializing in the areas of Labor and Employment Law and Bankruptcy Law. Ms. Lyon also served as a United States Peace Corps Volunteer in Western Russia from 2001-2003, where she taught English to students at Vladimir State Pedagogical University and Uglich Pedagogical College. Ms. Lyon is a native English speaker and is proficient in Russian.

Under the direction of ICNL's Vice President for NIS, and other ICNL senior staff, Ms. Lyon will provide legal advice and training in ICNL's NIS programs, focusing on legislative assistance, capacity building, implementation assistance, legal training and other regional initiatives.
