Assessing the Arab Legal Environment: A Map for Development

Civil Society Dialogue Preparatory Meeting to the 2006 Forum for the Future

The Forum for the Future was created at the June 2004 G8-BMENA Summit as a method by which the members of the G8 (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States and Russia) could provide technical and financial support to governments and NGOs in the Middle East who were working to achieve political, economic, and social reforms.

30 - 31 October, 2006 | Amman, Jordan

The International Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL) is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the Civil Society Dialogue Preparatory Meeting to the 2006 Forum for the Future.

The Preparatory Meeting was a unique opportunity for more than 40 Arab civil society leaders from 13 different countries to discuss priorities, strategies, and goals designed to create an enabling legal environment for civil society in the Arab world, one of the four civil society themes of this year’s Forum for the Future. Participants designed a presentation to the G8 and Arab governments, and six representatives selected by the group will deliver the presentation to G8 and BMENA government representatives at the 2006 Forum for the Future at the Dead Sea in Jordan.

The two-day program was augmented by presentations from international and regional experts on topics including International Law Protecting the Freedom of Association and CSO Activity, The Value and Purpose of the CSO Sector, Organizational Governance, and Current Initiatives in CSO Law Reform in the Arab Region. Many of these presentations are available below.
