Research Center

Keeping up with the latest news, information, research and experiences impacting the not-for-profit law world is a daunting task for any organization. This is especially true for smaller, local civil society organizations with limited resources and access to trends and information. In order to facilitate knowledge-sharing as well as to provide support for all organizations interested in this dynamic field, ICNL has developed a centralized Research Center. The ICNL Research Center contains a wealth of data that provides support to not-for-profit law initiatives, including:

Online Library

ICNL's Online Library is a searchable directory of key research including domestic and international laws, research papers, reports, legal opinions, and more. The online library includes over 2,300 resources from more than 167 countries in 37 languages.

Resources by Theme

ICNL receives frequent requests for resources on a variety of subjects related to civil society law. In the Resources by Theme section of our Research Center, we provide links to selected collections of key resources on several topics, including Defending Civil Society, Laws on Volunteerism, Regional and Global Overviews, and NGO/Government Cooperation.

International Journal of Not-for-Profit Law

The International Journal for Not-for-Profit Law (IJNL) provides its readers with new and significant commentary on the latest issues facing civil society. The journal is attentive to topics of interest to the developing world while appealing to a broad audience including lawyers, scholars, donors, and government officials.

NGO Law Monitor

The NGO Law Monitor seeks to provide up-to-date information on legal issues affecting not-for-profit, non-governmental organizations around the world. A network of individuals and organizations work with ICNL to monitor legal developments affecting civil society in thirty countries as well as the activities of eight multilateral institutions.

Global Trends in NGO Law

ICNL's newest publication Global Trends in NGO Law is a brief, quarterly synthesis of key developments relating to the legal and regulatory issues that affect non-governmental organizations.
