In Legal Services Corporation v. Velazquez the Supreme Court held, by a vote of 5 to 4, that a restriction prohibiting LSC funded organizations from representing clients in an effort to amend or otherwise challenge existing welfare law. The Court struck down the restriction as violative of the First Amendment freedom of speech.
