Venezuela: New Website to Assist Social Responsibility and Community Development
A new website on civil society and community development will be developed in Venezuela as a result of a grant by the World Bank to the Venezuelan telephone company CANTV. CANTV will work with civil society organizations, including the Association of Civil Society Organizations (SINERGIA) and the Center for Social Research (CISOR), to establish the site. The following statement includes excerpts from the press release.
La compañía telefónica venezolana CANTV anuncia que ha "recibido una importante donación del Banco Mundial para liderizar la creación del primer Portal Nacional para la Sociedad Civil y el Desarrollo Comunitario, en alianza con el Centro Nacional de Tecnologías de Información (CNTI), organismo adscrito al Ministerio de Ciencia y Tecnología; Acción Voluntaria de PDVSA; la Asociación Nacional de Organizaciones de la Sociedad Civil (SINERGIA), y el Centro de Investigaciones Sociales (CISOR).
Este Portal, es una iniciativa del Banco Mundial que surge como respuesta al clamor por apoyo de las organizaciones de la sociedad civil, en su lucha cotidiana para promover el mejoramiento de la calidad de vida y la disminución de la pobreza en el mundo, mediante el uso intensivo de tecnologías de información, de modo de que dispongan de un espacio de comunicación e interacción entre ellas mismas, el Estado y la empresa privada nacional".
Con este proyecto, Cantv.net y el resto de las instituciones involucradas pretenden " crear una gran red de servicios y contenidos tales como fuentes nacionales e internacionales de financiamiento para proyectos, consultorías especializadas, legislación, ¿quién es quien?, Directorios, experiencias exitosas, estudios de casos, capacitación y adiestramiento en TI, creación de comunidades de conocimiento..."
