Ireri Ablanedo

Advisory Council

Ireri Ablanedo Terrazas is a researcher and specialist in civil society, philanthropy, social development and citizen participation in Mexico. Her professional experience includes government, academic, and non-profit organizations as well as international development agencies. As a member of the Federal Commission on CSOs, Ms. Ablanedo was responsible for coordinating the design and implementation of Mexican public policy for civil society organizations. She was also responsible for introducing stringent impact evaluations to highly effective CSOs to assess and adjust their interventions more strategically.

Ms. Ablanedo has participated as a speaker in numerous national and international conferences regarding the right of assembly, citizen participation, and civil society law. As a researcher, she has authored and co-authored several studies, including “Las organizaciones de la sociedad civil en la legislación mexicana” (ICNL/USAID, 2009); “Reducing Maternal Mortality in Mexico: Building Vertical Alliances for Change” (Zed Books, 2010); “The Legal Environment for Civil Society Organizations in Mexico” (USAID, 2017); “Promoción de una agenda fiscal para el desarrollo de las organizaciones de la sociedad civil: Sistematización de la experiencia mexicana” (ICNL/CSL, 2008); and “Encuesta Nacional sobre Filantropía y Sociedad Civil: Capital Social en México” (CEPI, 2008); among others. She has been a researcher at the ITAM Philanthropy and Civil Society Project and a Senior Research Fellow at the International Center for Not-for-Profit Law. She has also consulted for the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), United Way International, The Ford Foundation, and the Executive Commission for Victims of Human Rights Violations, to name a few.

Ms. Ablanedo has also served in various positions at the National Institute for Social Development, the Ministry of Interior, and the Federal Institute for Access to Public Information and Data Protection, all entities of the Government of Mexico. She is currently the senior CSO Specialist for the USAID Mexico Civil Society Activity.
