Jordanian Student Detained for Several Weeks Following “Non-Criminal” Verdict

In April, Mohammed Al-Khatib, member of the student union at the University of Jordan, was detained and referred to court for his involvement in the students’ movement at the University of Jordan. Though the court decided that his acts did not constitute a crime under the Cybercrimes Act, Amman’s Governor issued a detention warrant against him and Al-Khatib was detained for several months. He was released on June 14, 2024 following a hunger strike in protest of the decision.
