Letter from 16 U.S. Senators to the IRS Commissioner demanding that they “open an investigation to determine if the supporters of the National Students for Justice in Palestine (NSJP), including the AJP Educational Foundation (AJP), the Tides Foundation, the Westchester Peace Action Committee Foundation (WESPAC Foundation), and other benefactors of NSJP have engaged in conduct warranting revocation of their tax exempt statuses on the basis of their financial support of NSJP.” The letter cites a 2024 lawsuit filed against AJP and NSJP to claim that AJP serves as Hamas’s propaganda division in the United States and that both organizations responded to Hamas’s “call for mass mobilization” after the October 2023 attack. Letter to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Commissioner requesting information about the Energy Foundation and The People’s Forum. The letter claims these nonprofits are connected to the Chinese Communist Party because they have received money from American Neville Roy Singham, “who is actively fueling CCP propaganda.” Among other questions, the letter asks the IRS if it has information about whether these groups receive foreign funding, whether the IRS uses a definition of antisemitism when evaluating whether an organization is operating for an exempt purpose, how the IRS determines whether an organization meets exempt purpose, and if it is grounds to revoke tax exempt status if an organization operates to “promote conduct that is counter to public policy.”
