In 2010, the UN Human Rights Council passed a resolution on the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association, which created the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the same rights.
In this interview in CIVICUS’s Civil Society Watch Bulletin, ICNL president Douglas Rutzen talks about the process leading up to the resolution, which stretches back to 2004 – when the global backlash against civil society became apparent.
