On September 19, 2006 ICNL was pleased to participate in a democracy roundtable for world leaders attending the United Nations General Assembly. In attendance were 23 heads of state, including the Presidents/Prime Ministers of Afghanistan, Benin, Iraq, Italy, Liberia, Malaysia, Morocco, Tanzania, the United States, and elsewhere. Seven NGOs participated in this meeting, including organizations from Egypt, Russia, U.S., Uzbekistan, Venezuela, and Zimbabwe. ICNL had the distinct honor of making an introductory presentation to provide the global context for discussion. ICNL was also requested to compile follow-up recommendations.
