The International Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL) is pleased to announce that it has received a grant from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation to help develop the legal and regulatory framework for NGOs in Kosovo.

It is currently impossible to form and register an NGO in Kosovo, which poses a threshold obstacle to the development of civil society and the reconstruction of the province. As a result, the development of an appropriate framework has become a priority for Kosovar civic activists, the United Nations, and a number of other institutions and individuals.

With the support of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, ICNL will provide technical assistance to the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) to develop appropriate regulations governing NGOs in Kosovo. ICNL will also provide assistance to the UNMIK registration office to help ensure that the regulations are properly implemented. In addition, ICNL will work with UNMIK and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe to educate NGOs on opportunities and requirements presented by the new framework.

ICNL is extremely pleased to have this opportunity to work with the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation to build the basic framework for civil society in Kosovo.
