NPOs applaud important changes in Financial Action Task Force (FATF) policy
PUBLISHED: JUNE 29, 2016
We at ICNL and ECNL are delighted to inform you of our success in changing how the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) perceives non-profit organizations (NPOs).
Previous language in FATF’s Recommendation 8 characterized all NPOs as “particularly vulnerable” to terrorist abuse and this led to over-regulation and restriction of NPO work around the world. Instead, the recently revised Recommendation calls on countries to apply proportionate measures only towards NPOs identified as being at risk. This achievement is the result of years of research, advocacy, awareness-raising, and mobilization by our Global Coalition and we applaud the hard work of all of our partners.
