Defending Civil Society report now available
PUBLISHED: MARCH 2008
ICNL and the World Movement for Democracy are pleased to announce the release of a “Defending Civil Society” report, the first phase of the Defending Civil Society international campaign to promote the adoption of internationally-recognized principles that protect civil society. During the report’s drafting, five regional consultations were held in Morocco, Peru, Ukraine, Thailand and South Africa. Grassroots activists, human rights leaders, journalists, scholars, and other civil society representatives provided critical guidance throughout this process. In addition, the Report is being endorsed by a group of internationally-recognized civil society leaders, thus far by Vaclav Havel, Saad Eddin Ibrahim, and Anwar Ibrahim. Special appreciation is extended to CIVICUS for their review of the draft.
