Tier Classification of the SDG Indicators as of April 2019
PUBLISHED: APRIL 2019
This document contains the updated tier classification, based on changes made by the Inter-agency and Expert Group on the Sustainable Development Goal Indicators (IAEG-SDGs) following its physical and vitural meetings since March 2016. The lastest changes reflect the decisions made during the 9th meeting of the IAEG-SDGs in March 2019.
The indicator for the “protect fundamental freedoms” component of SDG 16.10 (16.10.1 Number of verified cases of killing, kidnapping, enforced disappearance, arbitrary detention and torture of journalists, associated media personnel, trade unionists and human rights advocates in the previous 12 months) has now improved in classification from a Tier III indicator to a Tier II indicator, which means the “Indicator is conceptually clear, has an internationally established methodology and standards are available, but data are not regularly produced by countries.”
