Ingrid Mittermaier

Advisory Council

Ingrid Mittermaier is a principal in the San Francisco law firm of Adler & Colvin, a firm that specializes in the representation of nonprofit organizations and their donors, with an emphasis on tax and corporate matters.

Ms. Mittermaier is a member of the Advisory Council of the International Center for Not‑for-Profit law, and is also Board Chair of Wildflowers Institute.  She is a member of the American Bar Association, and an active participant in the Section of Taxations’ Exempt Organizations Committee.  She was also a member of the Executive Committee of the State Bar of California’s Taxation Section, and past Chair of the Tax-Exempt Organizations Committee.  Ms. Mittermaier lectures regularly at law conferences, seminars, and webinars, and in the past taught a course in the Master of Nonprofit Administration program at the University of San Francisco.  She has contributed to various publications, including a chapter entitled “United States and California Law” in Charity Law:  Jurisdictional Comparisons, a part of the European Lawyer Reference Series, originally published in October 2012, and updated in 2019.  She co-authored Rules of the Road:  A Guide to the Law of Charities in the United States (2nd ed.) (Council on Foundations, 2008), and “Operating in Two Worlds:  Tandem Structures in Social Enterprise,” (The Practical Lawyer, Fall 2011).

Ms. Mittermaier received her B.A., with distinction, in 1991 from Stanford University, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.  She received her J.D. from U.C. Berkeley School of Law in 1994.  Ms. Mittermaier is fluent in German.
