Digital Rights in Central America

Guaranteeing fundamental rights in the digital environment is a crucial challenge for societies. In the Central American region, digital space is insufficiently regulated and those regulations that exist are used to limit online freedoms. Local experts agree that Central American countries need to review their privacy and data protection laws to protect freedom of expression and other rights in the digital environment.

This report, drafted by Central American experts, analyzes current regulations in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and elsewhere, comparing them with international standards and assessing their weaknesses. It exposes gaps in cybersecurity and human rights protection in the digital space and proposes concrete solutions, focused on law reform and the protection of human rights.
