ICNL Co-sponsors and Participates in Regional Conference on Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and Freedom of Association in Almaty
PUBLISHED: APRIL 14, 2005
On March 30th and 31st, ICNL legal consultants from all five Central Asian countries attended a seminar sponsored by ICNL and OSCE in Almaty on the topic of Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and Freedom of Association.
Over 80 participants, representing all five countries, took part in the seminar and included representatives from government agencies; international and local NGOs; donor organizations and other local citizens. Before the seminar, ICNL prepared information on the status of freedom of association in each country and conducted presentations on this topic during the conference. This information was also compiled and published in a book that was distributed to the participants. Before the conclusion of the conference, a set of recommendations was drafted and agreed upon by the delegations. These recommendations will be presented to the appropriate administrating agencies in each country and ICNL and the OSCE have pledged their continuing support to adopt these recommendations.
