UN Guidelines on the Right to Participate in Public Affairs
PUBLISHED: NOVEMBER 2018
These 2018 guidelines, drafted by the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) after an extensive consultation process, present the basic principles and requirements for the effective implementation of the right to part in public affairs.
The guidelines also provide practical recommendations to both States and civil society about how to implement this right, looking at various dimensions such as participation in electoral processes, direct participation in non-electoral contexts and participation at the international level.
Guidelines are available in English, French, Spanish, Arabic, and Russian.
