Regional — Conference report on the “Simposio de Responsabilidad Social Empresarial en
Las Américas “(Symposium on Corporate Social Responsibility in the Americas) held in
Caracas Venezuela, June 10-12, 2001 .*
Entre los días 10 y 12 de junio de 2001 se celebró en Caracas el Simposio de
Responsabilidad Social Empresarial en Las Américas, bajo los auspicios de Petróleos de
Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA), la Asoc iación Regional de Empresas Petroleras y de Gas en América
Latina y del Caribe (ARPEL) y la Cámara Venezolano-Americana de Comercio e Industria
(VenAmCham).
El objetivo del Simposio fue el de compartir modelos, enfoques y metodología en el área
de Responsabilidad Social Empresarial.Las palabras de bienvenida y de apertura estuvieron a
cargo del Presidente de PDVSA y del Presi dente de la República, respectivamente.
El evento contó con la presencia de nume rosos invitados del extranjero, quienes
aportaron valiosas ideas tanto en las Plenarias como en las 11 Mesas de Trabajo.
En la Mesa de Trabajo número 8, relativa al “Marco regulatorio y de incentivos para la
Inversión Social en las empresas” participaron la jurista mexicana Consuelo Castro, del Centro
Mexicano de Filantropía (CEMEFI); la licenciada Luz Helena Sarmiento, de ECOPETROL
(Colombia); y el abogado Antonio L. Itriago Mac hado, del Escritorio Dr. Pedro L. Itriago P.
(Venezuela). La conducción técnica de la Mesa estuvo a cargo de Federico Araujo, distinguido
abogado venezolano.
En un ambiente de gran cordialidad, los ponentes y los asistentes de esta Mesa hicieron
referencia a la legislación de los diferentes países de la región en materia de filantropía
empresarial. También a los inconvenientes de algunos proyectos de ley que se vislumbran.
En un todo conforme con el moderno Derecho No Lucrativo, la Mesa concluyó en la
necesidad de consolidar el marco legal en el c ual se desenvuelven las OSC de la región y de
propiciar la autorregulación.
