Foreign Contribution Management Control Bill in India

Published: August 11, 2005

The existence of civil society in India is currently threatened by the proposed Foreign Contribution Management Control Bill (FCMC), intended to replace the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (1976). The bill is in the draft stage and has been uploaded on MHA’s website for response. It will then be sent to the stakeholders before reaching parliament. If this bill is passed, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) will be restricted, regulated and strangled to the extent of becoming non-functional.
