How Anti–Money Laundering Rules Are Reshaping Civil Society in Francophone Africa

Across Africa, efforts to combat money laundering and terrorist financing (AML/CFT) are transforming the operating environment for nonprofit organizations. Driven by Financial Action Task Force standards and the reputational consequences of grey listing, governments are revising regulatory frameworks at speed. This report examines how these reforms are affecting nonprofits in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Mali.
